Cody Smith to rejoin TSRS for limited schedule this year
La Vernia, TX (5-16-07) – Cody Smith, a 17-year-old La Vernia driver in the ASA Southern series, will rejoin a Texas late model series for a limited schedule this summer.
Smith, the 2006 Rookie of the Year and runnerup champion of the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) late models, will rejoin TSRS for a select number of races, starting with the June 9 race date at Thunder Hill Raceway (THR).
“After reevaluating our position at this point of the season,” started Cody Smith Racing (CSR) team co-owner Tom Smith, “we’ve realized we want to get Cody as much ‘seat’ time as we can. So we bought at TSRS car earlier this week and will run a few series races this summer. We still will run in the ASA Southern series and will also run some of the Blizzard Series (Pensacola, Fla. and Moblie, Ala.).”
“I’m excited to get back out there and run TSRS,” Cody Smith stated. “I got a chance to watch the last TSRS race (May 12 at Thunder Hill) and saw the excitement in the series this year. When my father approached me about running the series for a few races this year, I was very open to the idea. This is something that fits into what we’re trying to accomplish for the long run.”
“We love coming back to TSRS,” added CSR co-owner Barbara Smith. “It’s now the premier late model touring series in Texas and the series puts on a great show for its fans. We’ll feel right at home in the races Cody runs, starting June 9th at Thunder Hill.”
Cody Smith will run for the ASA Rookie of the Year award next season. Smith will join K-MAC Sports co-owner Chuck Licata and 2006 Lonestar Legacys champion Dillon Spreen on KTSA-AM’s “Track Smack,” hosted by Dawn Murphy, for the live broadcast of the show at KTSA’s watch party at Dave & Busters this Saturday.
