Tri-City Speedway sets March 30 opening night
PLEASANTON, Texas (Feb. 15) – Opening night is set for March 30 at newly named Tri-City Speedway.
The ¼ dirt track will run Fridays through Aug. 31 under the direction of first year promoter Clyde Cox III. Both the IMCA Modified and Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMod divisions return to weekly programs at the former I-37 Speedway.
“The potential of this track hasn’t been tapped yet. I think we can take it to a new level,” said Cox. “We want to see more consistency in the way things are handled and are also talking to potential sponsors about making purses bigger and better.”
With regular season race dates in place, Cox hopes to get a couple special events on the schedule for 2007. New safety fencing between the track parade row and grandstand will be installed and the pit area expanded, approximately doubling the size to accommodate 150 race cars.
A new track website is also in the works.
IMCA has sanctioned the Modified division at Pleasanton since 2001 and the Southern SportMods each of the last two seasons.
“I like the speed and the excitement of the Modifieds,” Cox said. “The Southern SportMods allow drivers to move into a class they can cut their teeth on that’s not as expensive as a Modified. Drivers don't have to spend as much money to race a SportMod and be competitive. That's what makes this class great."
