Indiana's Motorsports Industry to be Focus of Summit

Indiana INTERNnet and the Indiana Motorsports Association will on May 15 hold an inaugural summit to educate participants about establishing internship programs in the motorsports industry. The summit will also highlight the racing industry's impact on the Indiana economy and will discuss a number of new motorsports programs at universities and colleges in Indiana. Gerry Dick will moderate a panel discussion at the event.

April 25, 2007 (Indianapolis) – Two champions for providing career exploration for today’s college students are joining forces to rev up interest in internships with the motorsports industry. Indiana INTERNnet, a free online internship matching program from the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the Indiana Motorsports Association will co-present the inaugural INgear Motorsports Education Summit on May 15.
This event, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is designed to educate participants on what it takes to get an internship program up and running, with a specific focus on long-term motorsports internship collaborations.
Gerry Dick of INside Indiana Business will moderate a panel discussion consisting of representatives from racing teams, tracks and manufacturers. Participants will also hear about the racing industry’s significant impact on Indiana’s economy, experiential learning programs in place at Marian College, IUPUI and Indiana State University, plus how to develop internship plans courtesy Indiana INTERNnet’s newly published “Indiana Employer’s Guide to Internships.”
The INgear (Indiana growing education and racing) event will also afford ample opportunity to connect with industry leaders. Human resources personnel, career services professionals, educators and anyone interested in motorsports internships are encouraged to attend.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located at 4790 West 16th Street on the city’s west side. Attendees should report to the Brickyard Pavilion for registration and a continental breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Summit concludes at 1:00 p.m. after provided lunch. Cost is $39 per person.
