ASCS Gulf South Series Rolls into South Texas Speedway

Corpus Christi, Tx. The cars and stars of the American Sprint Car
Series(ASCS) make their return to the 1/4 semi-banked dirt track Monday night July 3rd as part of the ‘Bud Select Independence Weekend Bash.’ These high powered, open wheeled, winged warriors put on a show that thrills young and old alike with their high speeds and wheel to wheel racing. The Monday night show also includes the South Texas Speedway Modifieds and Limited
Modifieds
The Gulf South Series is one of the nine regional touring series, along with the national ASCoT series. Currently the Gulf South points battle is led by Texas City native, Greg Rilat. Gary Watson, defending series champion Ray Allen Kulhanek, Chris Sweeney and Lane Whittington round out the top five in points. The Gulf South region covers tracks in five states from Texas to
Mississippi, and last visited the Corpus Christi track in the 90's.
Both divisions of the local modified classes will also be on hand with a full program of heats and features in each class. In the Modified class, young gun, Steve Whiteaker jr. holds a mere two point advantage over veteran, Lawrence Mikulencak. Andy Van Blarcum has the Limited Modified points lead over Steve Whiteaker Sr.
The Bud Select Independence Weekend Bash begins Saturday night July 1st with “Fan Appreciation Night” featuring reduced general admission for adults and children. Saturday nights action includes heats and features for the Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Thunder Stocks, Bombers, Dwarf Cars and the always popular, Demolition Derby.
Gates open both nights at 6:00 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday night adult admission $5.00, children under 12 free. Monday night adult admission $15.00, children under 12 $3.00
Rooms available at the Holiday Inn Corpus Christi, 5549 Leonard St. 361-289-5100, ask for racers rates($89.00) Directions; Take I-37 to Hwy. 358, first exit will be Leopard St. Go to light, then left over freeway. Holiday Inn will be on the right.
