I cant help but wonder what the fate of the USRA wil be over the off-season. Here's a little trip down memory lane courtesy of MotorsporsAddiction.com --> www.motorsports-addiction.com/news_usra.html“Asphalt racing, like dirt track racing, is suffering for sponsorship and for car count,” Dickerson said. “Without sponsorship, NASCAR would still be racing on the sand in Daytona. My job is going to be to get sponsorship and build this series into a ‘mini NASCAR.’ We want to have three traveling classes with 35 cars in each class. My theory is to put more fans in the stands and quit making the racers pay to race. The way to do this is with sponsorship and publicity. We’re seeking more venues to build the series into something very successful.” -Terry Dickerson, Owner USRA. November 28, 2004 memories.... Man Terry, what happened?

Looks as if he's had his 3 strikes....
#1 - 3 traveling series - looks like the mods&trucks are going to be only at SAS next season & SLMs are on the way out
#2 - 35 cars in each class - LOFLMAO yea sure. car counts are down by at least 50%
#3 - quit making the racers pay to race - from what I hear, cost keeps going up, I dunno. looks like a wiffer to me
man, good "theory" but dont look like its werked - just my humble opinion

I had a feeling the opinions & rumors would start to trickle out after the last USRA race in Kyle. Your freedom of speech will be respected, but please keep things civil.

well, i am glad you're optimistic about the near future of the SLM series, but something needs to be done, and get rid of all the stupid [edited out by John Kelly Jr, 11/04/06] rule changes

It really is about $ and not just the purse size. 1- Money wins races & championships. The more $ you spend the better the team will be. In the past the good ole' boy mentality worked great, but these days racing self-sponsored is difficult especially at the SLM level. Sponsors are a precious commodity anywhere. It's hard to get them and sometimes impossible to keep. The logical objective should be to lower the cost of racing to both current and potential teams that are sitting due to budget limitations. A. Limitations on shocks & springs would be a good start. Having 5 sets of $1500 shocks is ridiculous. Maybe have a choice of shocks which would all be comparable in the low & mid-level cost range & a max # of shocks allowed at the track on raceday. B. Also throw out the ABC body rule and go back to measuring hood, roof, rear deck heights, trackwidth & wheelbase. There are a lot of cars that are sitting just because the body isn't ABC. hehe I was going to go on, but the baybay is hungary

Well, being more so a fan than actually on a team (i help every now and then) if the cost is too high, then whey dont they do some things to cut the cost? It just looks as if theyre trying to say "ok we're phasing in these rules and those of you who have the budget to change, change and those who dont ...... well sorry,no hard feelings right?

on this USRA deal. I'm sure they have a plan to keep slm racing going in texas. Some may not agree w/ it but maybe it will work out in the long run (shrug). I just wish they would talk w/ the local guys and others who have run in past slm series for input. Ah well, I feel like I'm beating a dead horse now.
Yea, dunno 'bout the TXSZ forums being down hobbyguy. I tried going to the site and it doesn't work. Hope they get 'em up soon.
