Four IMCA divisions run Saturdays at Odessa’s Champion Motor Speedway ODESSA, Texas (April 3) – Champion Motor Speedway waves the green flag for four IMCA sanctioned divi sions this season. Eleven point shows are on the 2008 schedule for the Modifieds, Southern SportMods, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Champion will run every other weekend starting April 19, splitting Saturday nights with Cardinal Motor Speedway in Eunice, N.M. “Drivers wanted the sanction. They know having the same rules means they can race at more than one track,” explained new promoter Jack Nance, a long-time acquaintance of Cardinal boss Sam Hodges. “Sam and I get along great and we’re planning a race together at the end of the year. The fact that we’ve got consistent classes makes that viable.” Approximately 75 miles separates the two tracks and Nance anticipates sharing employees and more than a few fans, as well as competitors, with Cardinal. Nance owned a drag strip for 20 years. He’ll also oversee oval track programs at Odessa May 3, 17 and 31; June 14 and 28; July 12 and 26; Aug. 9 and 23; and Sept. 20. The sanctioned Modifieds, Stocks and Hobbies last ran at what was then Basin Raceway Park in 2004. The upcoming season will be the first for Southern SportMods at Odessa. Modified points earned at Champion, and at Cardinal, figure toward IMCA South Central Region standings. Stock Car and Hobby Stock points at both tracks apply in the respective Destroyer Chassis Southern Regions.
