LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 7) – An already familiar IMCA division will return to weekly shows this season at newly named Lady Luck Speedway. The Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMods headline Friday programs at the 3/8 mile clay speedplant, promoted by Walter Crum and Danny Poff and formerly known as Tech Motor Speedway.
Opening night is April 20, with points races now scheduled through Sept. 21. “There are probably about 60 Southern SportMod drivers in the area and almost all of them want to run for national points,” said Crum. “With the IMCA sanction, they’ll be able to race here on Fridays and at Lubbock Motor Speedway on Saturdays.”
More seating in the pit area will be added and the entrance to the pits moved further to the east before the season gets underway.
Poff and Crum have both worked at other Texas tracks. Poff will also head the tech inspection crew at Lady Luck. “We will be consistent with the rules. Our whole goal is to bring more cars and more fans to the track,” Crum said. “We want to rekindle the fire and make racing fun for everybody.”
The track’s Lady Luck moniker comes from the name of Crum’s former race team, which included a modified and two limited modified cars.
