with the unofficial(ahem)closing of S.A.speedway, this will mark the second track dear to my heart to succumb to the same fate. in 1984 , a true legend closed its doors to make way for the SilverLake cookie factory...(nope , never even tried one). Islip Speedway, a tiny 1/5 mile on Long Islands south shore, boasts former race winners such as Richard Petty, and is also where the demo derby and figure 8 racing was invented!!! but it was the nascar modifieds that shook the ground , and we could tell from 5 miles away if they were warming up as we headed to the track (yes...believe it) you could google Islip Speedway or hear is a link to get ya started , i know pics are better then my story telling . www.lasheefs.com/Pages/IslipFreeport/islip1.html

Thanks for your post! It is always sad to have tracks close for whatever reason. Some people who aren't part of the sport (or the sport isn't a part of them) just do not understand.
Nice link, and welcome!

This isn't a bash.... but when I heard who was promoting the track, and about his history with the track in Kilgore, I wasn't surprised in the least.... I had been prepared for it since the day "Racer Roy" rode in to this town.
