Thunderhill Raceway offers unique introduction to the 2008 Racing Season
Welcome Party, Awards Banquet, Swap Meet and Enduro Race –
all combined into one weekend
KYLE, TX (November 19, 2007) – The Thunderhill Raceway 2007 racing season has finally come to a close, and plans are currently underway for a family-oriented, fun-filled weekend to kick off the 2008 season. Starting on Friday, February 29, 2008, and continuing through Sunday, March 2, 2008, a full slate of activities is scheduled at Thunderhill Raceway (THR) – including a Welcome Party, an Awards Banquet, a Swap Meet and an Enduro Race.
On-Site Camping
Racing enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their RVs, campers or tents to the pit area and spend the entire weekend at Thunderhill Raceway – from Friday (February 29) until Sunday (March 2). Barbecue pits will be allowed throughout the weekend, and public restroom facilities are located in the pit area. Limited electrical hookups are available.
Welcome Party
The weekend’s activities begin on Friday night, February 29, with a “Let’s get ready to Leap into ‘08 Party” – starting at 8:00 p.m. in the garage area. Racers and fans will have the opportunity to get together on an informal basis to talk about their racing experiences in 2007 and share their plans for the 2008 racing season. Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite covered dish to share with their racing friends, along with their own drinks. There is no charge for this event.
2007 Awards Banquet
The next event on the agenda will be an Awards Banquet to recognize the drivers who competed in the Thunderhill Raceway local classes during the 2007 season, along with the drivers who raced with the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS), the Pro Modifieds and Texas Trucks. Sponsor awards will also be presented at the banquet.
The banquet is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, and it will be held in the newly-remodeled Drivers’ Lounge/Technical Inspection Building that’s located in the pit area at Thunderhill Raceway. A social hour – starting at 7:00 p.m. – will kick off the banquet. Planned activities include a video presentation that highlights the 2007 season and some sort of entertainment that is still to be determined.
Light appetizers will be served, and guests may bring their own liquor to the banquet, excluding beer. A cash bar for beer, soft drinks and setups will be available.
The attire for the banquet will be casual (no t-shirts, please).
The cost will be similar to the regular THR grandstand admission rates - $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free admission to children ages five and under. The $2 discount for senior citizens, military and police officers will also be honored at the banquet. Tickets may be ordered by using the attached form. A special discount of $2 off each ticket purchase is being offered on all ticket orders postmarked by December 15, 2007.
Swap Meet
The 4th Annual JRA Kids’ Club Swap Meet is scheduled for the next morning – Sunday, March 2, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Racers will have the opportunity to “swap and trade” racing items – or anything else they want to purchase or sell at the Swap Meet.
Admission and parking are free for the general public, and food and drink will be available. The Swap Meet will be held “Rain or Shine.”
Vendors are welcome, and a 12’x25’ outside space can be rented for only $25. Vendor registration can be made in advance by visiting the JRA Kids’ Club website at www.JRAKidsClub.com or by contacting Aaron Brungot at (512) 750-4378. Vendor registration can also be done at the gate on the day of the event at no additional charge.
“For the fourth year, the JRA Swap meet will kick-off the racing season,” said Aaron Brungot, one of co-founders of the JRA Kids’ Club. “We’re not just having this developing tradition, but the best part is we can all get our racing fix that very afternoon with Thunderhill’s first ever Enduro race.”
Enduro Race
The 1st Annual Thunderhill Raceway Enduro 200 will be held on Sunday, March 2, starting at 2:00 p.m.
This 200-lap event promises to be a fan favorite! The cars competing will be allowed minimum modifications for safety purposes only. The caution (yellow) or red flag will not be used, except for fire emergencies and/or endangerment to a driver. Drivers will have to maneuver around stalled cars on the track, hazardous track conditions, etc., to battle for the lead.
The purse awards $10,000 to the WINNER, based on 100 entries. The winning amount will be adjusted, based on the total number of registered cars. For example, if 75 cars were to enter the Enduro, the winner would receive $7,500. More exciting information on this race will be announced soon – including the rules, registration forms and entry fees.
Come One – Come All!
Drivers, race teams, fans, sponsors, officials, touring series, staff members, etc., are all invited to attend these upcoming events.
Mary Ann Naumann, owner of Thunderhill Raceway, is looking forward to hosting this action-packed weekend. “We really wanted to try something different this year to top off an absolutely awesome 2007 racing season – and to introduce our 2008 season at the same time,” said Naumann. “We’ve decided to combine several events into one weekend that would be fun for the entire family – and save some travel expenses for our out-of-towners. And, then again, you never know what else we might decide to add to that weekend’s activities!”
