Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (November 19, 2007) – Brandon Berryman received championship honors as the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region presented its Sixth Annual Awards Banquet at the Isle of Capri Casino in Lake Charles, LA, on Saturday night, November 17. Hailing from Missouri City, TX, the 27-year-old Berryman became the series fifth different champion, taking top honors by a narrow 10-point margin over Skip Wilson, with 2006 champion Gary Watson just another 20 points back in third. Berryman took top honors on the strength of series' best marks of four wins and seven top-fives in 14 events. Berryman put the clamps on the title by winning two of the series final four events. Wilson and Watson both posted a dozen top-ten feature finishes, with Wilson edging ahead for runner-up honors on the strength of six top-fives to Watson's four. Also honored among the top ten were Chris Sweeney, Tommy Bryant, Greg Rilat, Ray Allen Kulhanek, Kathryne Minter, Brad Stokes and Jimmy Brooks. Several special awards were presented over the course of the evening as well. Stokes picked up Best Appearing Car honors, Bruce Crockett earned the Hard Luck Award, and Greg Rilat was presented with the Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row. Battling rain over the first half of the year, the ASCS Gulf South Region ultimately completed 14 events at eight different tracks. A dozen events took place in Texas, with one event in Louisiana and one in Mississippi. Additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available at www.ascsracing.com
