Daggett Wins ASCS Sprints on Dirt Season Finale; Mann Takes Championship
T.J. Buffenbarger, LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (September 6, 2008) – Dustin Daggett dominated Saturday’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz season finale at I-96 Speedway.
Daggett started outside of the front row and led every lap in route to his eight ASCS SOD feature of the season in the Mott Motorsports Gaerte powered Maxim chassis. Daggett’s win topped off a great night of racing with a 25-lap feature without a single caution flag. The win also secured Daggett the title in the Engler Machine and Tool Half Mile Master mini-series.
“We wrecked a car last night at Hartford, but I really like this other car,” Daggett said in victory lane. “The car felt perfect and I could drive it anywhere on the track.
Brett Mann parlayed a sixth place finish to clinch the 2008 ASCS SOD points championship. Its Mann’s first Sprints on Dirt championship and also the first for his car owners Bill Rowlee and Herb Frohlich.
Gregg Dalman joined Daggett on the front row with Dagget leading the field into turn one. Dalman tucked into second. Daggett motored to a large advantage while Dalman and Ryan Grubaugh battled a majority of the race for the second spot. Grubaugh took advantage of lapped traffic to take away second with just four laps to go.
At the finish it was Daggett capping off a dominating performance over Grubaugh, Dalman, Ben Rutan from tenth and Dain Naida.
